About the Creator
Hey, I'm Chris. I am an electrical engineer, with a Ph.D., that has dabbled in many industries including e-commerce, AI research, programming, electronics, manufacturing, and teaching. I have been building websites since the days when Yahoo! was the go-to search engine. My most enjoyable work has been on the creative side. I am a do-it-yourselfer, and will rarely pay for something I can do myself.
The Story
Well, my educational and professional career is winding down. It is time to start finalizing my retirement plans and get out of the "grind" at the ripe age of 55. Traveling the world and working on my creative projects is where I am headed.
I was looking for a detailed financial plan that takes all of my income streams, and my wife's finances, to produce a projection showing what we can comfortably live with each year during retirement. I wanted it to take taxes and capital gains into consideration, and downsizing/selling my home, and liquidating my rental properties, and income splitting with my wife, and control over inflation and investment growth, and a way to stress-test this plan against changes in inflation, poor investment growth, living longer than expected, experiencing a housing market crash, taking pensions (or social security) at various ages, and many other scenarios. And, I wanted this planning tool to automatically optimize my income strategy to minimize my taxes, maximize my income, and maximize my legacy to pass it onto the kids... Yes, I am very detailed-oriented and probably too demanding.
I started by binging YouTube videos and scraping the Internet to find out how I can make sure I am financially ready to plunge into retirement. There is a lot of information on retirement planning and retirement calculators. I found what I was looking for; several programs that can do everything that I wanted, and more. But, as you can guess, these tools are not cheap and not even available to a layperson like me. That's right, only Financial Planning professionals can get access to these tools.
Voila! Retirementize is born. So, being a do-it-yourself kind of guy and a big fan of AI, I made my own tool that can do what I was looking for. Then, why not offer it to everyone absolutely free!
Why is it free?
There are two simple reasons:
